The weather that day reminded him of the sticky, muggy summer days in San Angelo, following around after his father to help as if to prove something. That something then of course was that he was good enough and was perfectly adequate, but that wasn't where Colt's mind was at that moment. Still, there was no reason why the weather shouldn't remind him of home because San Angelo wasn't as far from Wayside as one would think. The sun blazed from above, a limitless yellow ball hanging in the midst of a blanket of pale blue. A few clouds dotted it to break up the monotony, hanging plainly in the sky, barely moving. There was a faint, warm breeze that touched his skin that came from the south, most likely from some disturbance of weather in the Gulf Coast.
That morning hadn't been particularly long, just quiet. Part of Colt wondered where his usual company was, but he supposed that she did after all have a life outside the barn, although that was hard to believe. Gigi spent hours there, polishing up her horse to look clean and ready for anytime she needed him, spending time around Colt himself, even offering her help, such that it was with her short limbs. Her little hands and arms could barely grasp a large saddle pad without dropping it or her toppling over. As far as she was concerned, Colt felt as if the world for her must be like a distasteful wonderland of things to large for her and everything out of her reach.
Still, who was he to say that? The last time he was as tall as she, he had probably been around ten years old. And that hadn't been for long until he had hit a growth spurt. Colt was even taller than his older brother, and that was saying something. Often times when he was fourteen and his brother sixteen, people would wonder why it wasn't he who was driving or they would ask if David were his younger brother. The spiteful part of Colt then got a kick out of it and always used it for as long as possible. David had never been pleased. Oh well, to Colt it had been even. David was spoiled and had everything handed to him while Colt was left crawling around in the dirt to get what he wanted. There was no point to argue over it.
As the silence went on while Colt gathered up the tools he had used to mend a broken piece of fencing, he began realizing the nagging part of his innards that was expecting Gigi to show up any second. He wanted to slap himself for it even, why was he worried if she wasn't there yet? Because a great big part of him had grown used to seeing her nearly every day, and had jumped at the opportunity to spend time around her. That wasn't to say he was going to admit anything yet but didn't that insinuate feelings of an affectionate nature? When a thought process continuously involved that of another? If it were, Colt didn't know and wouldn't admit it. As far as he had figured out, even when he did allow himself to feel that way about someone, he didn't mix well with those kinds of feelings.
He would jump in head first and ignore all sense, it was simply a lack of knowledge as far as the female population went. Colt knew nothing of it, and even once or twice he had been stupid enough to ask Gigi how to go about the right way as far as girls went. Colt wasn't a shy person, he simply didn't know. He hadn't had a father there that wanted to tell him and his brother was too busy kissing ass to care. So pretty much all he knew had been self-taught and that obviously wasn't working out for him. Still, he didn't mind being alone and there wasn't really anyone around that caught his interest, he figured it would happen whenever it was meant to.
Due to the heat in the day, Colt hadn't paid much mind to keeping the pale, tan button up shirt on as he worked. Instead, he had left it hanging on a tired little hook in the barn and had simply been left in a sleeveless white shirt to cover his torso. Colt didn't sweat much as he worked although a bit of the shorter, cropped hair that covered his head stuck to his forehead in a disarray of faint, golden copper locks. The rest of him was covered in a pair of jeans and work boots as per usual. One of the horses in the pasture next to him caught his attention as he walked on, nearing the barn. It was a new horse, a quiet little bay paint that was getting used to the new smells and sights. A larger palomino was chasing the bay around and eventually the bay kicked off the palomino with a resounding thud of hoof against equine flesh.
So caught up in watching as he walked Colt hadn't realized the entry to the barn nearing where the dirt met the pavement, so when he finally turned to catch his line of vision up in front of him, the tip of his boot caught and sent his right hand to the wall next to him to catch himself from landing face first into the pavement. His left hand which had been holding the bag of tools ready to be put back in its proper place had flown from his hand, sending it skidding across the ground as different tools flew from it and now lay strewn across the aisle. There was a moment in which Colt felt a little humiliation at tripping, but it didn't last long and immediately a faint smile tugged at the corner of and a bit of a laugh escaped his mouth at it. “Oh, that was genius.” Colt berated himself lightly and bent to pick up the mess he had made.

Gigi tapped her foot impatiently whilst waiting for her toaster to finish and pop her PopTart out so that she could go. She was already late to the barn and she wanted to work Blu with a new fence type today. For that she had to get there early but the stupid show viewing that she’d gone to earlier had run over time. She hadn’t had much time to drive home, change and grab a PopTart before it was time to go again. Waiting now, in an annoyed fashion for the thing to come, she snatched it triumphantly when it finally dinged and, pulling the cord out on her way past, quickly left the apartment and locked it before rushing down the steps with the tart in her mouth and nearly slipping face first into the mud outside next to a flower pot. Not having time to giggle, the little brunette continued on and finally found her car.
Unlocking it, she slid in and dumped all her things into the passengers seat of the silver Mercedes. Pulling out into the parking lot, Gigi drove the short ways to the barn after placing her PopTart on a napkin. When she arrived, the girl gathered her things and headed straight into the office. There, she dumped her things, checked the lessons schedule and, seeing nothing imminent and needing of attention, returned to her car for her food. After locking the Mercedes and taking a hardy bite from the snack, Gigi turned and began to make her way towards the barn where she knew Blu, and most likely Colt, would be awaiting.
The brunette was in a great mood ever since she had awoken that very morning. Today was April first and that was a big deal. April Fool’s had always been a great thing at her house and after growing up playing tricks and having been the object of just as many tricks, Gigi had become something of a pro. One wouldn’t expect it looking at her - a shy, short little girl that rarely spoke - but that was the secret of many great tricksters was it not? Gigi had the best trick planned for Colt though. She’d been planning it for almost a week now. These things did take great planning in order to be successful.
As she walked towards the barn, Gigi took a bite out of her PopTart and spotted Colt walking into the barn at that very moment with a toolbox. Just as she approached behind him, the groom tripped and almost landed face first in the isle the way Gigi almost had on the way out from her apartment. Giggling, the girl did a small half-leap and entered the barn. “Fail,” she snickered playfully. As she did so, Gigi leaned her elbows on Colt’s back and gazed down at the big man with a grin. “How are you today?” she continued as if nothing were any different. Then, pausing, Gigi’s face began to contemplate something. “Oh Coltie, I need a favour. I’ve just realized I left my phone at home. Can I borrow yours?” she asked. Her face fell and looked frustrated as the little brunette straightened. Taking the phone that was handed to her, Gigi pushed a few buttons and expertly switched the number of Colt’s voicemail to that of a phone sex line that she had written on her hand.
“Oh, Coltie,” she said then. “You have an old voicemail from me. Here, I’ll let you check it first.” she said innocently and handed back the phone. As Colt took it back and began pushing buttons, Gigi took a step away and, waiting until he’d had it to his ear a few seconds, giggled then turned to book it out and away from the barn. She felt like a little girl again. All the times she’d played tricks on her twin sister and older brother came back to Gigi as the twenty-two year old, grown woman, raced like a fourteen year old away from the crush she’d played a trick on. The only difference was that here, Gigi’s crush on Colt was different from that of a fourteen year old and her trick wasn’t because she liked him like that - it was because he was her friend and she wanted to poke fun at his being a male.
As she raced around the barn, all the horses whose windows were open, peeked out over the side, staring at the usually so calm brunette who went past with her boots kicking up dust as she raced by. As she reached the end of the barn length, Gigi continued on and entered the nearest pasture that was empty only for one old grey pony sleeping near the end. Climbing over the rail, she paused and turned to look back. A movement near the barn made her almost squeal and the brunette leapt the last few feet to the ground before racing over towards the center of the pasture.

While the heat was becoming unbearably muggy outside, there was some relief found in the form of a few large ceiling fans overhead in the barn. Colt was bent over his mess, reaching out for a wrench just out of his reach when a faint voice filled his ears and a sudden bit of weight landed on his back. The owner of the voice didn't have to say her name or state what she was doing- Colt knew it was Gigi. It was as if by some otherworldly gravitational pull that the two were connected. If she were in the room, he found himself drawn to her side. If Colt needed someone to speak to, she was the first in his mind. Even if he didn't want to talk to anyone or was completely out of sorts, he was easily found most comfortable by her side.
There wasn't any way to figure it out and there wasn't any reason for him to want to figure it out. Gigi would be there if he asked, and he would be there if she asked. That was what friends did. That was what best friends did. There wasn't anyone else he would rather spend his time with and while that was a slightly overly mushy thought, it was true. A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth revealing a faint dimple on the side of his face. “How d'you know if it were a fail? Maybe I wanted to trip. Or maybe I planned it. You'll never know.” Colt turned his head slightly to peek over his shoulder at her when she asked how he was. He went back to reaching for the last strewn out tool and shrugged slightly.
“Alright I guess. It's too quiet today.” A faint pause went along with the words. “I kind of missed you.” The honesty pulsing through the tone in his voice was evident. Colt had never been a good liar and even on his worst days he wouldn't be able to not tell the truth about things. That didn't involve his feelings toward the opposite sex but, that was a whole different 'kettle of onions'. Gigi moved and Colt stood, closing the top of the bag that the few tools had been in the first place. Faintly, he ran a hand through his hair, straightening his shoulders and coming to his full height. Suddenly Gigi spoke, his line of vision falling to her face. His nose wrinkled at the nickname for a faint second, wondering why she'd chosen to use it. The innocence in her tone left him baffled but there wasn't a reason to ask.
He complied, handing her the phone that had been in his pocket and while she did whatever she did with it, he had turned to set the bag of tools on a tack box just to the left of him. He had stepped across the aisle to reach where he'd left the over shirt just as she spoke again and he was slipping it back over his shoulders when she handed the phone back. Before Colt had a chance to suspect anything, the earpiece was up to his ear and it rung once. There was a giggle from next to him just the moment a sultry voice filled his head and within the next second he figured out why she had played so innocent. “Hey-!” Gigi was running out of the barn just as he spoke. “Where d'you think you're going?” Colt called after her and found his legs moving beneath him in the next second.
Colt hadn't suspected anything, but why would he? Still, as he briskly walked on, he couldn't help it. A faint smile tugged at his mouth. She had got him, and good. Just as he came out of the barn, all traces of decency while on the job left his mind and he ran after her, his long strides more like bounds of a foal with new legs rather than Gigi's who seemed as lithe as an antelope. He slowed when she leapt up over the railing and he had just reached out for her arm when she went up over it and ran further into the pasture. A simple grasp and a leap and he was over the fence rail, surprised he hadn't fallen at doing so. “I ain't letting you get away with it I hope you know!” Colt called again after her just as he was catching up to her.
When he did, he realized if he didn't slow he would up mowing her over, much like a Jet-Ski would if one were stopped in front of it while it kept going forward. Over-compensating for the stop in stride, the tip of one boot knocked the heel of the other and Colt went flying forward. Gigi was in front of him and bracing himself for the impact, he sent his hands forward and landed above her. “Are you oka-” A faint smile was on her face and he gave a faint glare hidden into a smirk back at her. “Y'know what? Nevermind. You're fine and don't tell me any different ̀cause I won't believe you. Like I shouldn'tve just now.” The greens in his eyes swam lightly, warm and calm. His breath came out in short huffs as he tried to catch it, then relaxing the weight on his arms and laying his body flatly atop her own.
“Geez, to think I'd be that desperate when I have you to do that for me.” Faintly, he moved his lips to run across her neck until he just laid his head there to rest. “Nevermind. Too tired. Too much running after a little girl.” He smiled slightly as he spoke, his face hidden. While he was laying across her body awkwardly, he hadn't put all of his weight there. A majority of it still rested in his hands but the rest of the energy in holding it up had disappeared. A faint snort came from him as Colt fought back a laugh. “Anyway, that with you no thank you.” A laugh did escape his mouth as he spoke this time and Colt moved to look her in the eyes again, looking serious. “By the way Gigi,” the tone in his voice came low. “You run fast for someone with such short little legs.” A wide smile pulled at his mouth again, the dimple appearing at the side of his face again. Colt hid his face again in the space above her shoulder. “Hold still, you're warm. I'm tired.” He instructed.

Gigi had smiled gently at Colt’s saying he had missed her that morning. She had missed him too; it wasn’t often that she wasn’t in his shadow and going to that show viewing alone had been somewhat frightening for the little brunette. She really was becoming far too attached and comfortable around Colt for her own good. They had only known each other a few nine months or so and she was already treating him the way she did her older brother. Thomas would have laughed at his younger sister had he seen. It was good in a way that Gigi was opening up though. It didn’t take much to gain her trust and crack the shy exterior. The only thing a person needed to do was be friendly and there for her when she needed it. In return, Gigi would do the same and there a friendship would be born.
Now, as she heard big footsteps coming towards the pasture behind her and the thud as Colt leapt the fence, Gigi’s heart skipped a beat. Uh-oh, he was catching up. At his call of her not getting away, Gigi laughed audibly and nearly shrieked as she was bumped from behind. In a great tumble, she landed face up on the ground like a log while Colt landed on his hands and knees above her. Eyes curious and shinning as a smile still graced her lips, Gigi listened to Colt start an apology then, change his mind and tease her. The brunette’s eyes gleamed playfully back and mid-giggle he plopped down on top of her making Gigi’s eyes shoot open like a hamster having his eyes bugged out. “Eeep!” she exclaimed.
As Colt spoke again, the faintest of blushes crossed Gigi’s face sobering the girl a tiny bit. Had that been what it appeared she was suggesting? Then as she caught Colt’s tone of voice a great smirk actually spread across Gigi’s lips. The smirk was soon wiped to be replaced with a very giggly expression though. Countless giggles erupted from Gigi’s chest at that moment and she squiggled like crazy under the great lump of man that was atop her as he tickled her neck with his lips. “Stop it!” she exclaimed. “T-that tickles- oh?” Her mouth came to form a small ‘o’ as Colt lay his head on her shoulder and made a comment about being tired. Frowning, the girl squirmed again about to reply when he spoke saying he’d rather not have her do that for him. With a raised eyebrow, Gigi giggled again and poked him in the stomach from where her hands where squished under him. “Ouch, insult much?” she replied giggling. “I can’t be that bad. Besides, if I’m so small that’s better for you because it compensates for your lack in size. ”
Glad Colt wasn’t looking at her that moment, Gigi frowned as he made a poke at her being short. It wasn’t often that the girl tolerated being called short but due to her jibe at him and the trick she’d played, Gigi felt it was only fair to take it lightheartedly. She had always been a bit vertically challenged even since a young age. For that reason Gigi had a nasty aversion to tall people, big things or high places. Surprisingly though Colt was an exception to the rule. He didn’t scare her so much as he made her feel safe. Even now, squished like a flea under the dog’s butt, she wasn’t so scared as she should have been. Gigi knew Colt wouldn’t hurt her; she trusted him.
Wiggling again as he told her to keep still, the brunette shifted. “So are you Coltie but you’re squishing my ickle lungs.” she giggled back. “At least roll over a tad - oh wait, on second thought, don’t.” Here Gigi turned her face so that she was gazing at Colt. “I have a secret to tell you,” she whispered. Reaching close to Colt’s ear, Gigi wiggled a little more and managed to free her arms. Pulling his head closer to hers she snickered softly. “Happy April Fools Day,” the girl whispered seductively. Then, giggling like crazy, Gigi laid her head back on the soft grass and let out a contented sigh.

There was a squirm and a giggle beneath him, one much like that of a little girl and at it, a smile tugged at his mouth. Colt couldn't help it, the sound was sweet and it proved he had achieved his purpose. There was only one time in Colt's life that he had ever felt so content to be around anyone else, though this situation was different. Gigi made him smile without the bitter feeling of guilt, he was allowed to be himself and she accepted that, regardless of the parts of him that lacked intelligence. It was few times in a person's life that they had such a friendship, a cherished one. If Colt were smarter, he could have easily fancied himself in love or something like it. But he wasn't, and it would take a lot for him to realize that fact.
A soft scent of rose filled his senses, it left him wanting to bury his face in her hair and stay there. The scent was calming, it was welcoming. It wasn't something easily forgotten. The thought process died though as she spoke again and he smiled slightly. As far as he was concerned, he had a perfectly good reason to insult her there. “Yeah but you offered, I just figured I'd let'ya down easy.” Colt smirked, something common although the difference was it was holding back a laugh at her next words. He was trying to get up as she said them and when she was done, he fell flatly against her again. There wasn't anything wrong in doing so he thought, regardless of what it looked like if someone walked past.
“That was hurtful.” Colt was hiding his face from her again, a pout shining obvious in his voice although missing from his face. She squirmed again, her hands pressed against his stomach and inaudibly a grunt left his throat at the contact. She'd pressed roughly against a rib and for a moment it hurt. It subsided quickly though. “Anyway, how would you know?” Finally he turned, eyeing her as seriously as the lightness of the situation allowed him to do. “Should I be sleeping with one eye open from now on?” The tone in his voice suggested at mischief, although the look in his face played as a smirk as one brow raised. He'd gone to resting his head back down and instructed her to keep still when she whined in his ear about squishing her lungs. “They're small enough, they'll survive.”
“And anyway I don't wanna move. You make a comfy bed.” He whined quietly and innocently into her ear. “A warm, snuggly, cuddly, comfy, Gigi bed.” His eyes closed and he feigned sleep, pressing his torso a little closer against her own. Still, he was careful and was mindful of how small she was. Her being small only added the effect though and Colt found himself smiling slyly. “Hey Gigi,” He turned his head slightly, burying his face further into the crook of her neck. “I wonder what someone might think if they saw us right now. Don't you?” A light tone clung to his vocals as they rolled from his mouth, breathing over her skin as he hid his face further. “I suppose it depends on who that someone is, though.” He smirked deeper at the thought, pulling his face away only for it to be pulled back for her to whisper something in his ear.
“What?” She informed him she had a secret. Secrets didn't make friends is what he had been told when growing up, but this didn't apply. It was secrets that kept friends, no matter how small or large the significance of the secret. Her hands moved and at the contact Colt had to bite back a snort because it did indeed tickle just a little. Her small hands pulling him closer had his eyes closing at the touch. They were soft, he couldn't help it. Her tone registered before the words clicked in his mind. This wasn't a Gigi he had ever expected to see or even hear. The words took a moment to fit together in his mind and he turned his face to look at her.
Their noses were nearly touching, for a moment, the dark flecks in her brown eyes were visible and even Colt found himself lost for just a moment. Yes, he had thought of Gigi as a woman before, a rather pretty one at that. Pretty didn't describe the smiling face beneath him though, simmering brown locks of hair splayed out around her face as she went on giggling at her joke. Shrugging off the random thought that offended the idea that this was his best friend he was looking at, Colt moved just enough to roll over onto his back and off of her. While doing so he had scooped her small body up and hugged it tightly to his own, inevitably having her now laying atop him as they switched places.
She squirmed and Colt held tighter. “I said don't move.” A firm tone filled the words for a flicker of an instant. “I told you that I wasn't gonna let you get away with it.” The smile on his face faded slightly. “So here you'll stay 'til I say you can move.” While the smile faded, it lingered on in his eyes in a different array of lighter hues of greens swimming around together in a circular pool of emotion. After a moment, he helped her sit up, his hands resting on her knees on either side of his torso as he looked up at her. “I'm actually getting paid to keep you here.” Colt looked serious, eyeing her carefully. “I'm still on the clock.” He looked away slightly and then up to her face again. “So you're doin’ me a favor. But if I get fired, I'm blamin’ you.” The smirk that had died tugged at the corner of his mouth, the faint dimple becoming visible again. “Are you sure you can handle that kind of guilt?” He asked after a short lived moment of silence in which he had reached his left hand up to lay against the right side of her face.

Gigi watched slightly wide-eyed and curiously as Colt spoke of how she’d offered. Had she really? The thought momentarily crossed Gigi’s mind and the small girl twitched ever so slightly. For a second there, she had actually considered the thought more so than any normal girl should have and let it slip on un-offended or at all poked into being less perverted. Had her internal filter shut off or something? This was far more something Gwen would think about and now, as Gigi thought of her twin sister, the thought of Colt before twisted itself and the little brunette squeaked and shut her eyes. Since when had she had such a dirty mind?! Besides, considering what Colt said - it would all just go downhill anyways.
As the girl was suddenly squished again though, all discomfort with herself and dirty thoughts flew away to be replaced with a giggly smile once more. Letting out a small squeak as she was re-squished and snuggled, Gigi could only giggle more. How would she know? “Oh yes, like I take the time to stalk you.” she snickered. Suddenly, Colt’s head was on her shoulder again and Gigi smiled gently. It was disconcerting how comfortable the little girl was with this big man on top of her even though they were pretty much the same age. It was just the absurd height difference but obvious personality mix that made it all so amusing. Gigi was placidly content as she breathed in Colt’s musky barn scent of horses. She felt as if she could easily fall asleep even though she was being quite squished. Until he spoke again and accused her of being a comfy bed that was. With a quick poke to the side, Gigi didn’t answer as his torso pressed in more so upon her own.
In actuality, it was getting slightly harder for her to breath and the girl attempted hard not to wheeze as she shifted trying to take in a breath that didn’t make her sound like Blu before the roan snorted and sprayed his audience with horse boogies. The air currents that flowed to and from her lungs where being squished upon but a large hunk of man meat - Gigi’s eyebrow twitched at the thought - and the amount of airflow was altered. Colt did shift right then slightly as he seemed to take mind of her size and Gigi let out a soft breath as he buried his face in her neck. As she was addressed, the girl made a soft, comfortable “Hn?” noise and waited for Colt to speak. As his words - and actions - slowly sunk in to her brain, the brunette fidgeted. He was trying to make her uncomfortable. He was. But she wasn’t going to let him.
“Oh, you’re right.” she replied instead. “I better hope for the whole Coltie fanclub to pass by then. If they see us I’m sure they’ll be upset and then you can go show off your man powers and cheer them up. I’ll name them for you so you have a hint to go on …hm…Jessie….Naomi and ….Chloe. Because I know you love those names.” Poking him in the side again, Gigi snickered to herself eyeing Colt with an evil glint in her eyes. The names had been random as they popped into Gigi’s mind and the girl thought over them for a moment and remembered that as a child, she’d always wanted to name her children that. Perhaps she still would. Gwendolyn really had rubbed off on Gigi though somewhat. Had anyone not known, the two could have swapped places and nobody could ever guess.
Still in that slightly evil mind set, Gigi decided she might as well mention the scheme the two twins had come up with a few years ago. It might serve as an interesting comeback and it would be highly amusing for the girl to see Colt’s reaction. Besides, when would she ever again have the chance to inform him of the most obvious fact in life?
“I’ve mentioned my twin sister Gwen right?” Gigi asked still snickering somewhat. “Well, had she been in my place, she’d have informed you right about now that you’ve officially passed the ‘ass’ test with flying colours.” Gigi laughed again. It was true, Colt had passed the ‘ass’ based on certain qualifications that the girl was not about to go into specifics about. Sadly though, the evil didn’t last long as Gigi leaned back again and giggling. As she continued on, coming to the brilliant conclusion of her seductive secret, the girl finally did collapse back in a fit of laughter. That laughter was short lived though as it was soon cut off by Colt’s abrupt swing backwards. Gigi momentarily felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted from her chest and a cold chill settled in before she was suddenly, and almost literally, airborne just to come crashing back down on a soft pillow of friendship. Corny. The girl almost giggle-winced at that last thought.
Squirming at the sudden move though, Gigi felt Colt’s breath come whizzing tenderly past her nose in a pleasant warmth that spread from the tip of that nose all the way to her toes. A blush quickly imitated that feeling and Gigi felt herself turn from the usual olive colour of her normal skin to the bright red of a lobster. His firm tone made her slightly uncomfortable too; yes uncomfortable, nothing more - Gigi felt like slapping herself. Firmness in tone and an awkward position didn’t mean anything. Not at all. This scenario, or rather her mind - was getting a little too out of hand perhaps and Gigi became worried. Colt’s smile soon came and cleared the foggy cloud above her head though and Gigi let out a sigh. Colt wasn’t serious, thank god. She didn’t know what would happen if he had been.
After a moment though, Gigi felt herself being shifted and lifted again. Sitting up and letting her hands crawl their way back from Colt’s shoulders, the girl sat upright not quite registering their position just yet. Smiling instead, the girl shook her head and was about to comment upon their craziness when Colt leaned back on his hands and shifted under her slightly too warmly. Gigi froze, finally noticing just how she was positioned, and a small but loud and quite high-pitched squeak erupted from her vocals as the girl snatched a hand to cover her mouth and struggled to squirm off. Flailing ever so slightly in a blind panic, Gigi managed to bring her knees up and smack one into Colt’s chin as she fell backwards. Almost as quickly, she brought her hands to her skirt and plunged it down as she rose to her feet like a grasshopper.
After the moment of fail discomfort, the brunette finally stood, toes pressed together, hands pressing her skirt down, red as a boiled lobster and stepped back shutting her eyes. “I’m so sorry!” the girl exclaimed. “I-I never meant…f-for my little joke to get s-so out of hand.” Feeling about to crawl in a hole and die, Gigi fidgeted. “I won’t do it again. I’m so sorry Colt.” she repeated. Then, with a quick glance around, she recalled his previous comment about being on the job and again Gigi felt the impulse to kick herself and crawl away. “Y-you should go back to work.” she whispered. A lump had risen to her throat and Gigi almost couldn’t speak with the embarrassment she felt had taken over. Good thing she was back on her feet again and away from Colt.

Colt wasn’t really listening as Gigi went on about some fan club he’d never heard of. The idea was sort of silly, too. Colt knew hardly anyone and when he did, he hardly was good friend or boyfriend material. Much less, fan girl bait. Gigi hadn’t been moving much under him when he suddenly felt a second poke in his side. It was getting a little unnerving when she did that. “Ouch! H-hey- what was that for?” Colt had been too far into his thoughts to understand what she’d meant by it. To keep a secret with the reader, though, it really hadn’t hurt at all. Perhaps he just felt like making things worse on his friend. One would never find out it seemed.
The glint in her eyes as he looked down on her had a brow lowering, confusion settling over his features as Gigi asked something about her sister. Sure, Colt remembered she’d mentioned something about siblings but there hadn’t been any specifics. The topic of family was a sore one for him and one he avoided most of the time, even if it were about someone else’s family. He was always afraid the topic would swerve to his own family and Colt wasn’t really sure he could handle explaining any of it to Gigi without giving a good bit of detail. Yes, he loved at least his parents. No, it wasn’t a love that included any form of like. It was merely a feeling that stayed out of the respect of not wanting to see anything bad happen to them. As far as his brother went, Colt would have been perfectly happy seeing the meathead lose his ability to walk or even pro-create. Then again, he was sure to get even more attention as that went so, plain and simple, the topic of family wasn’t something Colt discussed often.
“Uh… well, you did but-” Gigi’s snicker caused him to stop mid-sentence and the words following it confused him only more. What was she talking about? For a moment, the confusion had Colt tilting his head in a funny way as he tried to figure it out. It was something he’d done since he was a child, it couldn’t be helped; the boyish look that captured his face when he did it. Innocent, in a way. Something hardly achieved by many his age. “What are you talking-” He couldn’t help it; a slight laugh escaped his mouth, short and quiet as it rumbled from his chest. “Please, I don’t want to know what brought that on.” In truth, he didn’t. Colt feared how he would really feel if she told him. He wouldn’t be angry, no, never. More along the lines of embarrassment. In the future, Colt would kick himself every time he remembered this day. He would kick himself for not asking what she meant; he would do it again for not realizing the obvious mutual feelings, and not trying to understand the way in which she confused him.
Gigi- the name and person that would stain his mind and pierce his soul in the future was more valuable to him than anyone else before. It would hurt to know that she would soon be gone, a distant, hazy memory. Perhaps that was why people aren’t told their futures. Because once they’ve been told, it leaves them open for change and the outcome was never what one wanted if they chose it. By time the thought process of Gigi’s ass comment had ended, Colt had turned over and explained his point. His next actions held nothing but pure intentions as he was trying to rest back on his elbows just to see her face a little more clearly. Had he known her sudden discomfort and the now known intimacy of position, he probably would have never moved.
What happened next happened so quickly that for an instant, Colt was in a daze. It also left a red mark on his chin and him thankful that his tongue was nowhere near his teeth as her sudden hit caused his mouth to bite down. Bringing a knee up, Colt sat up slightly and pulled it to his chest. Doing so kept him from watching her too much as Gigi stood up and saved her skirt from flying away. Had she been wearing a skirt? He hadn’t paid attention. From now on he would. He was just reaching up to run a hand through his hair when she was apologizing and he turned slightly to look over his shoulder. Why was she apologizing? Furthermore, why was she looking so dejected all of the sudden? For a reason he couldn’t fathom, his heart raced at the thought of her feeling so awkward at what had transpired. Perhaps it was because he feared she disliked the friendship? Yes, of course. That was it.
“G-gigi,” Colt began haltingly as he placed a hand on his knee and pulled his other leg beneath him and stood, turning to face her. He took a step closer, standing less than a foot away from her. He wasn’t even sure what he was doing. He brought his right hand up, tapping her chin lightly with the knuckle on his index finger to get her to look up. He had to bend just enough to reach her level, too. “Look, no harm done. Not even a scratch.” He commented in a low, gentle tone that rumbled from his chest uncertainly as he gave a slight smile. “A-anyway, what do you mean out of hand? If anything- it was my fault. Honest.” Even if it wasn’t his fault, Colt was ready to take the blame for it. There was something in the way she stood that was pulling at his chest and he didn’t like it, it made him feel things he wasn’t familiar with.
She commented something, nearly in a tone so quiet he hadn’t heard it. “Wha- oh. Hey, that was-” His lips set in a hard line, unsure of what he should do exactly. In a motion of uncertainty, he reached out for her hand with his own right and held tightly. What was he doing? “Just because I should, doesn’t mean I will.” Colt had begun leaning closer as he spoke, something he hadn’t even noticed. When he did, he didn’t step back but merely finished, “E-especially if my best friend is uh, out of sorts. I can’t work like that.” Colt wasn’t sure if he’d used the title before, but if he hadn’t, it didn’t help the faint bit of red tickling his ears. It wasn’t something he understood. “Actually, hey. Come with me to the office. You can chill for a little while and if you feel that guilty, I can get some stuff done in there, too.” He went on quietly, not quite sure what he was doing as he led her off to the barn office where inevitably, a dark closet sat that he would soon become familiar with.

I was going to go ahead and rp out the "closet fail" but I decided not to. I can add it if you'd like, but seriously? This post fails because it feels OOC to me. T.T Anyway, I can add that part if you'd like. If not, that's okay too.
