Gigi climbed into the cab of Colt’s pickup truck and plopped her little self down in the shotgun seat. It was July twenty-second, or, a very important date to be saved on every calendar in the world. It was Gigi’s birth date! The brunette was turning twenty-two years old today and for her celebration, she and Colt and Jack where heading out to the Carnival that had recently arrived in Hattersville which was just a few hundred miles outside Wayside. They would be traveling by pick-up then spending the night in a motel. The next day would be spent at the carnival then the day after that they’d return home. The motel they would be staying at was supposed to have a lovely view of the lake on the opposite side from the carnival but… the only thing Gigi wasn’t too thrilled about was the fact that it was a motel.
Never once in her life had the brunette had to stay in one of those dinky little things. She’d heard so many bad stories too that it was all a bit frightening to her. On top of that, she couldn’t stand sleeping in new places, especially alone. It was one of Gigi’s worst fears to sleep in a new place. It was completely preposterous and silly yet not a thing to be taken lightly with her.
The threesome would be staying in two separate rooms but the sleeping arrangements sounded iffy already. Gigi could sense the open hostility between Jack and Colt even though the two tried to hide it. She didn’t know if they’d be willing to share a room together and then survive even if they did. That just left her in the position of choosing who she’d sleep with which Gigi didn’t particularly like. She had heard there were a few roll-aways so it wouldn’t be that bad but, considering everything, it was a hard decision. Gigi leaned towards Colt because she knew him longer but leaned away because she still had a partial crush. She leaned towards Jack because he was her boyfriend and leaned away for the same reason.
In all, the brunette decided they’d figure it out upon arrival and gazed ahead as the two boys outside spoke. A few moments later Jack appeared and climbed into the driver’s side. Gigi gave him a smile then turned as Colt appeared on the other side and opened the door. Gigi raised an eyebrow playfully. “And where might you be sitting?” she asked with a sly smile.

Jealousy. It was an emotion that rattled the brain and buried itself into the heart and mind of its host. It drove people to do insane things. It sent people to madness, and when it was unknown to the host, it only took a mere look or incident to be known. Money, things, love. All were the main starters for jealousy to home in on a host and burrow its little green self down somewhere hidden in the person. For money, all it took was to see someone else buy, spend, even be financially secure for jealousy to spring action. Things; it was simply seeing another with an item or treasured something while the host didn't have it for jealousy to sink it's razor thin teeth into a person. Love; love was a difficult one.
It waited longer, it hid farther into the core of a person and normally, all it took for it to show up and corrupt a person was insignificant things, like seeing two other people holding hands. Even seeing a close friend speak sweetly to someone else in a way only thought to be said to of spoke person. For Colt it was different, even when jealousy was known to him, he waited to let himself really understand it. Like this whole thing with Jack showing up and Gigi immediately finding him to be more her kind. At first it had been confusing for Colts mind. He hadn't known why the searing cold of jealousy stabbed him like a thousand tiny needles in the chest.
He hadn't known why it stung when Gigi went off and always grew excited over silly things that Jack did for her. In a small and quiet way, Colt had let himself harbor some amount of affection for Gigi in a way he had decided was best. The way that close friends did. It wasn't about the way her smile brightened his thoughts or her being around made him get clumsier or say stupid things. It was about being her friend and generally being there for her when she needed him. So even though paying for the gas, offering his pickup for this trip and even sitting in the truck for over 5 hours wasn't his favorite, he did it for her, she hardly asked for much and she seemed happy when he had accepted her invitation.
What he hadn't thought about then was that he would be sitting 5 hours in his own truck as Jack drove it. What if Gigi fell asleep? Would Colt be forced to hold a conversation with him? He didn't hate Jack, he just harbored a strong dislike for him. They had been friends before, but the sting of betrayal hurt. Colt didn't remember how it happened or even if Jack had lied to keep himself out of jail but Colt knew Jacks story about the stabbing varied from the actual events. Colt's own hazy thoughts helped the investigation none and the both had eventually gotten off for it with a small mark on their record. Small, it was insignificant to other charges in even younger years. Colt cringed when he thought about it.
That morning, Colt had woken up earlier than normal, groaning about the hour before getting up and getting ready for the day, not surviving the routine without whining about it all and the exhaustion in his bones. He had cleaned the cab of the pickup out, even organized the toolbox and made room for the items that would be stowed in there to save from being wet if it rained on the drive. Tiredly, he had driven over to Gigi's apartment and off to the barn where Jack would be waiting. After a few other preparations and random strings of conversation, Colt found himself standing alone by Jack while Gigi situated in the cab of the truck. “You better drive safer than you ever have before,” Colt warned. “I don't want to see her hurt and especially not in my pickup. I'd rather drive but she insisted since I'm paying for gas.” He continued, the swirling green in his eyes firm as he met Jack's own eyes.
Another moment or two passed and Jack went off to the driver side while Colt quietly opened the passenger side to Gigi's immediately smiling face. She spoke, and a small smile tugged at his mouth, that faint dimple occurring as he began to speak. “In your lap of course!” He smirked and slid into the seat, leaning his right leg out the door as he waited for Jack to situate and start the pickup. “Then again that wouldn't be so comfortable for me so, I guess next to you is okay too.” He leant over, though not much because he could reach without doing so, and pulled his leg in, shutting the door with a little clang, causing the dark green Ford to give a faint shake in protest.
