He was meant to be trained and sold but when Jamie started to ride him, she liked him too much. He was quiet, easy going and definitely a horse that needed to be ridden and not just push button. When Jamie started him at the age of 3 he turned out to be a nutcase, bucking all the time and generally being a goon. It took awhile but he began to calm down and soon Jamie would sit on his back for the first time, nearly a year after starting him. His training went reasonably easy after that, his intelligence being revealed as he picked things up easily. At his first competition as a four year old he threw a major fit, dumping Jamie and taking off. For the next few months he would be trailered to shows just to get used to the atmosphere while Jamie competed. When he accident happened, Joey was ridden by a student of Jamie's while she recovered from her injuries.
When they came to America Jamie started to ride Hunters and Dressage instead of Eventing. She found Joey had a natural knack for Hunters and stuck with it, teaching him Dressage at the same time since he had the movement. When his first American competition came around at the HITS show in Culpeper, Virginia, he turned out to be sound minded and wonderful in personality. They placed in the first and second range throughout their classes, Jamie deciding that they would show in Hunters. After awhile, though, the A Circuit became too much for Jamie who's still in recovery from her accident. She decided to take a break and just school Joey as a pleasure horse, showing every once in awhile.
